Michigan – Winter Wonderland

For those who were up early this morning and had to contend with the sheet ice on the driveways and early morning roads, I am sure that the ice was not appreciated. But in reflection there was and is a bit of beauty in the early morning ice. Since I had a scheduled visit to the Lakeland Health facilities in the mid-morning it provided me with a little taste of what the early risers had to contend with.

Lakeland Health, off Hollywood road, in St. Joseph, appears to have invested in therapeutic landscaping. The grounds abound with colorful flowers and lush plants which I am sure was designed to start a stress-filled day with calm and beauty for patients as well as staff.  There are multiple paths and sidewalks that allow a chance for exercise and fresh air for staff and patients.

Circumstances last year provided me with an opportunity take advantage of their efforts. During the summer, when the flowers and shrubs were in bloom, it was a great place to take pictures of the grounds and the many varieties of flowers they have planted.  When looking to take pictures, the birds and insects, also taking advantage of the gardens, provided additional items to photograph.

Today provided an opportunity to capture the effects winter was having on the landscape. Enjoy the views.
